As a Firefox user, it can be frustrating when a new build is released but your favourite extensions are not updated straight away. But from an extension developer’s point of view, it’s not always possible to make updates available on the same schedule as Firefox itself. Nikon Coolpix S640 review

The 12.2-megapixel Coolpix S640 ultra-compact camera doesn’t excel in any one area, but it’s a good all-rounder that should serve snapshooters well. There’s no high-definition movie mode, but its pictures below ISO 200 are excellent, it has a high-end feel and it offers decent performance

HBO Behind-the-Scenes 1983

One year before I was born HBO made a very ambitious intro that was said to be the most expensive and innovative concepts at the time (for the medium). I love the idea of incorporating techniques from the real world inside of After Effects for even more unique results. In fact the whole idea of mattes for compositing come from the early days of film-making… Watch the final intro above then be sure to check out the making of video below, especially the part towards around 5:30 that talks about the burst of light… Watch the Behind the Scenes I’ve also created a project file using that similar technique that mixes 2 images into a subtle animation.  Download the Project

Down on the iPad?

At the Upside Learning Blog , this post (which I found through the CLO group on LinkedIn) proclaims that the elearning industry is down on the iPad.  As I blogged , it’s huge for publishers, providing both a channel for richer media and interactivity, and a new unified market channel. It supports math modeling/notetaking/ presentation creation. I saw several flaws in the argument and had to write this response: I have to say I think this is partly or completely wrong

Five days in Dubai

I’ve read a lot about Dubai that paints a sad picture , but Philip Bloom makes it easy to look beyond the dark side and witness the undoubted beauty of the man-made surroundings. This four-minute timelapse video was filmed in Dubai over five days and five nights, shot using a Canon 7D and a Panasonic GF1 . It’s definitely best viewed full-screen.
