Some accumulated thoughts…

I’m not really going to here, either, but I do want to toss out some recent thoughts and see what resonates with you, so these are mini- blogs (not microblogging): Given the rate of change of things these days, and the need to empower learners to go beyond just what is presented (moving from training to education, in a sense), I think we need to go further to facilitate the transition from ‘dependent’ learning to independent and interdependent learning, as my colleague Harold Jarche so nicely puts it.

Digital Barbarism: one angry guy

As the majority of this reaction came through in comments on the piece directly or in blogs , wikis and other electronic media, the title Digital Barbarism seems to fit. My reaction to the book – not knowing the full scale of the sentiment against copyright – is that Helprin could tone down the anger and present the arguments in a much more condensed fashion

Logo porn revisited: Another look at awesome DVNO motion video by Justice

We first wrote about this classic logo porn by French electro-pop duo Justice on The Factor! a few years back when it was first released. While taking care of some blog house-cleaning a few days ago, I discovered the original YouTube link for the DVNO video had gone dark, so I spent a bit looking for another.

Snippets: The Oscar weekend, Logorama, Blog Fail & new Ubuntu logo edition

Oscar weekend is upon us and the awards show will undoubtedly suck up the oxygen on the Tee Vee and the Internet for most of next week. As this is supposedly a logo design blog, not much to write about really, except wondering how Logorama , a cool little animated film that should interest graphic designers, will fare.

Shiny New Title Project

So I’m still getting over a little cold but I wanted to make something shiny so here is a project file that uses 3D looking text with a billion layers to create depth and shadows. Everything was created with After Effect and there are no Lights in the scene. Watch Sample Video Download CS4 Project File (I don’t have CS3 on my laptop)

The myth of knowledge objects : the gap between knowing and acting

read this paper a long time ago and was blown away, and never got round to blogging about it. Mark Gould has got me in the mood as he recently blogged about the same paper. He might also discover that the sales presentation meetings have been moved from Fridays to Monday afternoons, placing added stress on the machine on Monday mornings

Always wanted 2 users on 1 PC! Now it is happening…

Yesterday I was in a meeting with the MultiPoint team here at Microsoft and I was very excited to hear that they helped release a new SKU for Windows Server called Windows MultiPoint Server 2010! See microsoft.com/windows/multipoint My vision was having 2 keyboards and mice on 1 pc on a desk, and supporting the ability to have users use 2 different applications. June 2007, I blogged : I'd love to have 2 monitors, 2 mice and 2 keyboards on a pc to enable 2 users. Unfortunately, Windows client has a bunch of ties to 1 app having focus, etc… MultiPoint Server gets around this by effectively using Remote Desktop sessions into the same computer

Sharing the verification love

Webmaster Level: All Everything is more fun with a friend! We’ve just added a feature to Webmaster Tools Site Verification to make it easier to share verified ownership of your websites. In the past, if more than one person needed to be a verified owner of a website, they each had to go through the meta tag or HTML file verification process. That works fine for some situations, but for others it can be challenging

The Case for ViewModel

One of the comments I got on my last post on view/view model hookup options was the following: I’ve been a mvvm fan but actually when I see all the hoops to jump through I wonder at times how effective this is So I wanted to take a moment to list what I thought compelled me to adopt the ViewModel pattern of client application development (so much so, that I now feel odd writing Silverlight and sometimes even Ajax apps in any other way). Some will be obvious benefits, especially to those already using MVVM in their everyday development, but I want to throw in a couple that are farther out exploratory ideas that I am thinking about
