Samsung SyncMaster LD220 review

The 21.5-inch, 1080p SyncMaster LD220 can be used either in conjunction with a laptop or as a stand-alone monitor. It doesn’t offer many configuration options and it’s not a great choice if you’re a gamer, but its sleek design and USB connectivity make it a decent option for more general use

At around £1,800, we think the 40-inch, 1080p, LED-backlit 40PFL9704H/12 LCD TV is too expensive, but, as long as you’re good friends with your bank manager, we’re happy to recommend this set. Its construction, picture and sound quality, and feature set all scream class

Hyundai dealer takes i10 out for banger racing

Banger racing is a popular form of racing in the United Kingdom. It is like any other form of racing you’re used to. The concept is the winner is one who takes the checkered flag, except for one difference – You try and deliberately knock off your opponents on your way to the finish line.

Obey Giant

Some newer and older posters from Obey . Some say Shepard is losing his touch with his newer work after his image really got bigger after the establishment of obey and his print work for the Obama campaign. Either way, he’s still laying it down on the government with his art direction that represents a voice much larger than his own, offering inspiration and affecting others to do work.

Mercedes Benz finds Indian buyer for Rs.2 crore SLS AMG

Dr.Wilfried Aulbur poses with the Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Desert Gold at Auto Expo India might be a developing country, but its developing pretty rapidly both in terms of knowledge of supercars and wealth. Here’s proof – Mercedes Benz has said it found a buyer in Rajasthan for the 2-crore rupee SLS AMG model which it showcased at the Auto Expo earlier this month. The SLS, which comes only as a left-hand-drive model, will soon be manufactured so that people driving on the wrong side of the road can also buy one.

Logo design Schadenfreude: Anti-piracy organization logo infringes on copyright

Wiki defines Schadendreude as a German word that translates into “pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others” and often involves some form of chronic, comical irony. If there was a case of logo design schadendreude, this might be the poster-child, as French-based file sharing enthusiasts are taking great glee in pointing out. To wit: As a result of a controversial ruling late last year, the French government tabled a series of copyright centric HADOPI laws, the lofty goals of which are “promoting the distribution and protection of creative works on the internet”

Picasso’s Guernica in 3D

Gonna bring a little high-brow stuff to the proceedings this morning and take a look at this remarkable animation of an equally remarkable work of art. Picasso’s Guernica is one of my favorite paintings (a reproduction hangs in my living room) so I found this 3D ‘exploration’ particularly stunning and as an example of computer animation, brilliantly executed. Created as part of a Master in 3D computer Animation thesis at the University of Georgia by animator Lena Gieseke several years ago, the short movie adds an entire new dimension (three actually) to the masterpiece.

DataBinding tooling: keeps getting better

2010 continues to find Silverlight/WPF in a very good place, and the beautiful thing is that we have so many people, in Microsoft, and outside, making it better. Reading some folks on twitter pointed me towards Karl’s blog post about d:DesignInstance and d:DesignData and ondrejsv’s post about Sample Data in Blend/SketchFlow .

Legitimised coups in modern 21st century Africa

John Mutumburanzou wrote to Kubatana recently, sharing his views on GNUs, and the new way of doing politics in Africa: The obsession and deliberate automated habit by contemporary statesman, political brokers and mediators buttressed by multilateral institutions like SADC, AU and the UN to form coalition governments (also erroneously referred to as Unity Government or Government of National Unity) in each and every troubled state in Africa is astonishing and mind boggling to say the least.

Kicking out paternalism

I have never been too fond of radical feminism or any form of extremism for that matter; finding it to be an aggressive, usually narrow and unhelpful approach to conflict resolution. Radicalism is often reactionary, manifesting as a reaction to some undesired reality and is usually the preserve of those who feel they have something to defend against all costs and something to fight for against whatever odds. As an activist, I have found that radicalism has its place, its use and its benefits in pursuing the elusive goal of attaining social justice for womankind

XAML: writing down all values of an object?

There was a “XAML Serialization” thread on Channel 9 – Coffeehouse today that had an interesting use of XAML. He was using XAML as a way to dump the state of his object graph for verification, debugging, potential transformations/exports, etc… As such, he wanted to see some R/O properties written down in XAML, that we currently judge as not interesting to write, since they are read-only…and thus can be read back in, so why write them

Surrogates Comes to Blu-ray and DVD, Atonement on Blu-ray, Plus More

“Vfx were really in a supporting role on this and we focused a lot on Bruce Willis’ surrogate character and finding his look and making him consistent through the movie, which took a long time,” concedes Mark Stetson, vfx animation supervisor. “They assigned the work to Synthespian Studios, Jeff Kleiser’s company, where they scanned a digital double of Willis and Synthespian built a CG model from Eyetronics’ scan and original cleanup work. But most of the work was done in 2D in Shake.” Action superstar Bruce Willis (the Die Hard franchise) headlines another spectacular thrill ride in the gripping film Surrogates, coming to Blu-ray* Hi-Def and DVD on January 26, 2010 from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment
