“I can’t really make much of a pronouncement about these apps but I was struck by the amount of restraint the apps’ designers used. A bigger screen increases the temptation to just keep adding interface elements.

Student Spotlight: Death By Chocolate

“Death By Chocolate is a corporate design and packaging concept for a non-existing chocolate label. It is my final year project in communication design at Folkwang University in Essen. The dbc products are divided into a candybar range, wrapped in a soft, matt foil and a more sophisticated range of chocolates.  Both product ranges are finished with UV-Varnish and blind embossing. The aim was to create a unique packaging concept, that focuses on the myth of chocolate but transfers it into a modern, rock n roll kind of context.” Designed by  Denise Franke .

Spiked with snake venom

We need more people like Rejoice Ngwenya in Zimbabwe. People who are willing to say it like it is. Here is Rejoice’s latest article: Many people who have expressed contrarian views on the wickedness of Mugabe , like yours, have only one slight problem – they won’t swap citizenship with me! We liberals in Zimbabwe [and there a miserly few of us] do accept that Leander Starr Jameson and his paymaster, Cecil John Rhodes, galloped across our fore fathers’ land and shot their way to the Deeds Office in 1890.  Rhodes’ remains are now at Matobo Hills, a world heritage site that is part of our revered National Parks.  Guess who was forcibly evicted from there in the 1900s?

A Quick-And-Dirty Way To Update Your Firefox Extensions

As a Firefox user, it can be frustrating when a new build is released but your favourite extensions are not updated straight away. But from an extension developer’s point of view, it’s not always possible to make updates available on the same schedule as Firefox itself. It takes time for new versions to be accepted, because every new upload has to be manually reviewed and approved, a process that typically takes several weeks.
