⇥ Software, APIs and all the king’s men – Marco Tabini

These days, it’s a rare occurrence that a web-based application is only ever going to remain web-based. What starts as a website usually ends up taking on a life of its own and expanding into mobile apps, GUI-based interfaces, and so on. Unfortunately, the vast majority of websites are still built with the old “web-only” approach in mind—which, in today’s world, introduces by-design limitations in what your software can do: when the client comes calling and asking for, say, an iPhone version of your application, or a client-based management console built in Flex and AIR, mixing your presentation and business-logic layer is going to become a very expensive decision

twilioKit php starter kit – Michael Kimsal

I’ve adapted my ZFKit for an upcoming Twilio presentation (codestock next weekend!) and created a new project on github for it under the project name ‘ twiliokit ‘.   ZFKit was updated a little bit (a basic menu/navigation was added with Zend_Navigation, some example unit tests added) and used as the basis for this.

"Trial Fusion" : Simple is as Simple Does

Quick Disclaimer: I was not, nor have been compensated in any way for this review. I came across this extremely simple to operate presentation program about a month ago and finally got around to testing it out last week. Generally, with a new program I set aside a few hours to pick it apart and run it through its paces and explore where I may be able to incorporate it in a future presentation.

DSAL Using WPF

Through this blog, I intend to share how I went about constructing an engineering project, which was also my first interlude with WPF. Unlike Computer Application projects catering real world problems with OOP paradigm, Computer Engineering projects more often require use of AOP paradigm making use of PLs promoting declarative functional programming. I am expecting the feedback to have beneficial effect on all my future work.

We are the stories we tell ourselves

I wanted to point you to this short TED talk below for two reasons: (1) It’s a pretty good example of delivery while displaying visuals on a monitor, and more importantly, (2) the content will be inspiring to many of you, and especially to those who may be stuck or looking to make a change in their life (but are a bit scared). In many ways, this presentation by Roz Savage is a good follow-up to the last post. Jake Shimabukuro (see below) excels by far surpassing other people’s expectations for his instrument.

Kongregate’s Flash games come to Android in style

One of the most exciting prospects of Flash coming to Android devices has been games. While the iPhone platform has become a developmental heavyweight for indie gaming in just a few short years, it remains unable to take advantage of the rich library of titles developed to work on Adobe’s Flash player. With this week’s inclusion of Flash player 10.1 on Android phones as part of the 2.2 software update, however, gamers on the go now have access to these titles

Future of Virtual 3D Environments for Learning

But I think there’s something that will come in from the back door that could cause significant adoption by 2015. We’ve reached a tipping point for web conferencing where it’s equivalent too and often preferable to face-to-face ( Learning from Others in the Room , Narrowing Gap between Face-to-Face and Online Presentations , New Presenter and Learner Skills and Methods )
