“I can’t really make much of a pronouncement about these apps but I was struck by the amount of restraint the apps’ designers used. A bigger screen increases the temptation to just keep adding interface elements.

Nikon Coolpix S640 review

The 12.2-megapixel Coolpix S640 ultra-compact camera doesn’t excel in any one area, but it’s a good all-rounder that should serve snapshooters well. There’s no high-definition movie mode, but its pictures below ISO 200 are excellent, it has a high-end feel and it offers decent performance

“ So, I made plans to go to lunch with Fred. And then the day before, the morning of, Fred cancelled on me. And it was the reason that he cancelled that made me realize that he was the partner for me.

Samsung SyncMaster LD220 review

The 21.5-inch, 1080p SyncMaster LD220 can be used either in conjunction with a laptop or as a stand-alone monitor. It doesn’t offer many configuration options and it’s not a great choice if you’re a gamer, but its sleek design and USB connectivity make it a decent option for more general use

Philips 9000 LED Pro (40PFL9704H/12) review

At around £1,800, we think the 40-inch, 1080p, LED-backlit 40PFL9704H/12 LCD TV is too expensive, but, as long as you’re good friends with your bank manager, we’re happy to recommend this set. Its construction, picture and sound quality, and feature set all scream class

“Back to the nuts and bolts of the new Google Voice web app though — it shows the coming promise of HTML5 I’ve been waiting for. Using the AppCache feature means that users can still interact with the app, even without a web connection.

““Look, it comes down to this,” says Stairs. “You’ve spent two hundred and fifty thousand of Bijan’s money so far, and you think your company is now worth thirty million dollars, right?”” – “Full, Upright and Locked Position” – Andrew Olson Andrew was one of the cofounder’s of  thePlatform which was the first company I invested in after joining Spark (acquired by Comcast). He’s now writing a fiction book and one of the characters is apparently loosely based on me

Is That My Video Deposition on YouTube? Best Practices for Law Firms

We perform a variety of legally oriented services her at VR Legal Resources ; everything from scanning and Bates Stamping exhibits to preparing and presenting exhibits and demonstratives in court, and, from time to time, we’re called upon to videotape a deposition. We’re fortunate to have professional relationships with many of the top law firms in the Los Angeles / Orange County area and a few of these firms handle some of the more popular cases you hear about on television or read about on celebrity web sites. Being “ringside” during these sometimes intense encounters and watching the verbal jousting that takes place is what keeps me passionate about my career in litigation services, that, and the fact that I’m entrusted with “behind the scenes” information that ethics dictate that I keep confidential

“It gets worse.  The judge in the case, in addition to enjoying torturing Microsoft with an injunction, ordered Microsoft to pay i4i over $290 million in damages.  At this point I paused and pondered why a Canadian company was suing Microsoft in East Texas.  Maybe it’s warmer there.  I certainly know the beer isn’t better.  I could keep going, but I’m running out of sarcasm (has someone patented that yet?)” – Brad Feld-  A Patent Ban on Microsoft Word and a Haiku Brad has a huge issue with our current patent system and he’s right.

“In 1979, Microsoft had 13 employees, most of whom appear in that famous picture that provides indisputable proof that your average computer geek from the late 1970s was not exactly on the cutting edge of fashion. We started the year by moving from Albuquerque back to Bellevue, just across the lake from Seattle. By the end of the year we’d doubled in size to 28 employees

SpinVox responds to BBC: Yes, we use people, but it’s all good

SpinVox is people! It’s people! That’s the Soylent Green cry of the BBC this morning — its tech correspondent, Rory Cellan-Jones, is sad to find out that SpinVox is using people to translate his voicemails into text, rather than a super-computer called D2, or ‘the Brain’. The worry is that SpinVox is sending our voicemails overseas to be translated by loose-lipped call centres, who might blab our secrets everywhere.

"PaperShow" : Write It – Show It (it’s really that easy!)

I recently had the pleasure of putting a new product called ” PaperShow ” through its paces to see if it would be a good fit in the trial presentation/court room environment. Papershow is similar in concept to the SMART Airliner wireless slate and eInstruction tablets , but is much less expensive at just $199 for the starter kit.
